Skywatch Friday - Archabbey

This is another photo of the archabbey I posted about earlier. Taken with, you guessed it, a 38mm Diana lens mounted on a Nikon D40.

Skywatch Friday - Giants in the Twilight

Sometimes we have to struggle to see the beauty in things of progress.  These power poles and lines made me think of giants marching into the sunset.

Skywatch Friday - Fire and Lightning

This shot shows a fire burning in the river bottom (not as close to the houses as it looks) with a lightning strike in the distance.  Often the lightning starts the brush fires, but in this case it was careless persons unknown.

Happy Third Birthday to SkyWatch Friday!!!  Please join in the celebration and enjoy other views of the skies worldwide at Skywatch Friday.

(This is a re-post of our favorite Skywatch Friday photo in celebration of their third anniversary.)

SkyWatch Friday - Sunset

I don't know about you, but this recent sunset looks a little maniacal to me. Do you see it?

Whooo You Talking To?

One of our well-known Arizona sunsets and a burrowing owl sitting on a very well-used perch from the looks of it.

Skywatch Friday - Brush Fire

This photo was taken in the summer of 2008. It's what happens in Arizona when the lightning from the summer storms meets the dry brush in the river bottom.  Although, it looks close to the houses, it is miles beyond them.  Visit here to enjoy other takes on Skywatch Friday.

Skywatch Friday - Ocotillo

(ō'kə-tē'yō): A cactus like tree (Fouquieria splendens) of Mexico and the southwest United States, having clusters of scarlet tubular flowers.

Spring has been very good to the ocotillos.

Skywatch Friday - Bird of Prey

Nancy and I were driving down the road one day trying to sneak up on this bird that was sitting on top of a pole to take a photo. Just as we got closer another car came down the road in the opposite direction and scared him away.

We're not really sure what kind of bird this was. An osprey maybe?

Sky Watch Friday - Leap Frog

This is a member of the U.S. Navy Parachute team, Leap Frogs.  Last Saturday, my mom and I went to a spring training baseball game and the team...parachuted, jumped, leaped...not sure how to say it correctly, into the baseball stadium. It was an amazing performance.

Skywatch Friday - The Storm is Coming

This was a storm moving across the valley below Yarnell Hill last summer. That's one of the things I love about Arizona. Truly wide open spaces where you can watch storms travel along.
