Motherhood Takes Dedication

It's very hot outside.  The temperatures are well over 100 degrees and there's no relief in sight.  Momma is sitting on her nest waiting for that special moment.  Dad is working hard too, though.  He's flying to and fro bringing tidbits to momma on the nest.

Baby Robin

This little birdie was getting some tough love from its Mommy as it followed her around trying to get her to feed it.

Bird's Nest

What kind of bird builds a nest like this between the roof tiles? Besides a really tiny one?

Curved Bill Thrasher

I've only seen this bird recently in my backyard. He has a beautiful call, but I think his eyes look a little spooky.

Committe, Venue or Wake - Your Call

A group of buzzards is called a wake.  A group of vultures is called either a committee or a venue.
The whole committee thing explains a lot doesn't it. Be sure and notice the little baby one in the barbed
wire nest.

Guess Who's Coming to Breakfast?

This morning as I sat at my desk, the roadrunner hopped up on the table next to the steps. I could just see it in his eyes...I knew what his next move was going to be. I reached behind me and grabbed my camera and got ready. Sure enough, he jumped up on the railing to the back door. I'm sure he was looking for breakfast.

Splish, Splash, I Was Takin' a Bath

I love to watch the birds taking baths. Even when it seems way
too cold to me, they seem to enjoy it so much.
Of course, it's hard to tell what kind of bird he is from this shot.

Gila Woodpecker

This woodpecker visits my back yard 2 or 3 times a day, but he's very shy and hard to photograph. I hear him before I see him. Usually by the time I get my camera he's already moved on. I don't have the best lenses for bird pictures but did manage to capture him once.

The Birds Are Back In Town

A pair of house finches have finally found my feeder.
Well, first it was a pair. Now there are more than that.
Word travels fast in bird circles.

Buzzard's Roost

This handsome guy is another great find at Duncan's Family Farm. He sits in a dead ol' cottonwood tree waiting for something good to eat. He's made from a shovel head, garden rake and other hardware odds and ends. He reminds me of a cartoon I saw years ago of a buzzard sitting in a tree out in the middle of the desert with a caption that read, "Patience, hell. I'm gonna go out and kill something". Believe it or not that mindset has stayed with me. When I find myself waiting for life to come to me, I give myself a kick and go out and find something to do.
