Meteor Shower...or not
Very early...and I mean very early on Friday morning I went outside (in my pajamas) to see if I could take a picture of the meteor shower. I'd love to tell you this is one, but if you look closely, you can see a red light spaced along the "streak" of light. Although I'm 25 miles or so west of Phoenix, I live under a pretty active flight path out of Sky Harbor Airport. I learned several things: I now know when the cock crows, I now know when our paper is delivered, I know how close I can get to the motion light before it comes on, I know when my neighbor leaves for work and I know I can walk in and out of my house in the deepest, darkest part of the night and neither one of my dogs (sleeping in my daughter's room) will become alarmed.
But I also learned that the late night air is cool and sweet, that the night sky is a wonderous thing to behold, that there are miracles I will never begin to comprehend and that I'm no good at taking pictures of meteors.

Interesting experiment in photography and life.
I suspect you also learned how you feel if you do not have a full night's sleep.
Well you may not have gotten the meteor, but you got a nice shot of the plane without camera shake. Tripod?
Even with a tripod, «Louis» has trouble with night shots like this having camera shake. So reach around, pat yourself on the back and say "atta girl!"
ha. love the humility at the end there...and there are miracles...hope you have a wonderful day!
Interesting shot and great narrative. I tend to be up wandering around in the middle of the night too. So I don't know what Dave is talking about when he says a good night's sleep!
Quite an overnight education! You might not have gotten a meteor, but you do have a work of art here. In fact, I'm sure I've seen something similar hanging on a museum wall.
Yeah, well, at least you got something.
I can even seem to get a shot of any stars much less shooting stars or even contrails from a plane, just black night sky. Nothing I tell you nothing. MB
Love your post! Beautiful!
What you got is interesting and look at all the stuff you learned. Well worth the loss of sleep.
The secrets of a night...
meteor showers or not, there is a lot to see in the darkness, isn't there?
Lol, what a lovely post!
I would also have learned that it's real nice to go back to bed! ;-)
excellent shot! regards
