Sunday Bridges - I Left My Heart In San Francisco
I’m going to trespass into Louis’ territory a little, if he doesn’t mind, and post this picture that I took during my visit to San Francisco last week.
I believe this is the Richmond-San Rafael aka Richmond aka San Rafael aka John F. McCarthy Memorial Bridge. We passed under it while taking the Vallejo Baylink Ferry back from Napa. I was outside on the back of the boat and didn’t hear the tour guide on the loudspeaker when he told us the name of this bridge.
The northernmost of the east-west Bay bridges, it is a toll bridge that opened in 1956 connecting Richmond on the east to San Rafael on the west. But don't quote me on that. If I've made an error I'm sure that someone will correct me. :-)
Please visit our friend Louis to see many more bridges from around the world!

terrific photo! it's a beautiful bridge.
Nice lines on the bridge. Boy, it looks dry there! Did you go visit the wineries in Napa?
This is a beautiful shot! You captured it so well. I've passed over it many times! Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
I would leave my heart in San Francisco for sure, if I visied it:)
Lovely photo!
So interesting structure with lots of detail lines!
Wonderful capture!

Fantastic close-up, wonderful colours and the structure is quite beautiful.
Beautiful bridge and a lovely title as well :D
"Sturdy" is the word that comes to mind when I look at this bridge.
Yes,Tracy, that's the Richmond-San Rafael bridge. It isn't the most handsome of the bay area bridges by a long shot and has been criticized ever since it was built because of it's utilitarian looks. 1956 is the correct year. Here's another view of it
Neat bridge! I'm envious, you got out of the heat and near water - good for you!
I've driven over this bridge a zillion times, but never been under it. Nice shot and angle. Your followers might be interested in the fact that one of the first exits on the San Rafael side is San Quentin prison! Now, that's real estate some developers are drooling over. Q has one of the best views ever of the Bay.
Super shot of the bridge. You were real close to it it looks like.
We just call all bridges 'the bridge' as so not to confuse the mind. LOL MB
I love it! It´s amazing
Best regards from Argentina

A grand steel structure!
