She Blinded Me With Science

 Darn! Facebook is down again.
When I saw this bench on a local corner I thought of two things. First, not too many years ago this young girl would be holding a book. Second, many years ago (but still within my lifetime) this would have been a scene of Jetson-like fiction. I guess that means this is either a sad comment on our way of life or a celebration of technology depending on the way you look at things.

"Her Secret Is Patience"

is the title of this flexible fabric sculpture created by Janet Echelman.  It's located in the Downtown
Civic Space Park. It is part of an effort to renew downtown Phoenix.

"Echelman, the artist, said she was inspired by the city’s open sky, its monsoon cloud formations and the desert flora, which she said bloom slowly and patiently, much like the city’s core has.

“That seems to be the right metaphor for this downtown,” she said. “They’ve been working a long time for the downtown to come to full bloom.”
The piece is designed to shift with the wind, making it a fluid addition to a morphing city. It will be illuminated at night."
