She Blinded Me With Science

 Darn! Facebook is down again.
When I saw this bench on a local corner I thought of two things. First, not too many years ago this young girl would be holding a book. Second, many years ago (but still within my lifetime) this would have been a scene of Jetson-like fiction. I guess that means this is either a sad comment on our way of life or a celebration of technology depending on the way you look at things.

It's both, really! But pity those that'll sit and complain as the world passes them by.

I tend to subscribe to the more optimistic view (tech's just tools — it all depends on how you use it). However, I do hate seeing kids with their noses in their PSPs and what-have-you when they're outdoors or when they're with other people. Not good.

I would much prefer the girl with a book but this is a sign of our times and I suppose we must embrace it. MB

The library in Prescott has a sculpture much like this one. The child is a bit older and she is reading a book. This one is so interesting. I don't think I would give a child that young a laptop. You can still use a book after you drop it. But I do like the sculpture!

Hey, thanks for the nice comment today. I hope St. Louis Daily Photo brings back some good memories.

I don't think this picture is either sad or celebratory. It just marks change. Soon it will be nostalgic, like a photo of the whole family gathered around gathered around a 1960 black and white television.

Oh, that is so true! It would have been a book. Now it should be a kindle! ha. They need a cellphone laying on the bench and her ipod earbuds in her ears! LOL!

Oh, what's even worse, my eye didn't catch anything unusual with your photo until I read your post. Right, a computer instead of a book, definitely the times we live in.

I so agree with your on this one. The other day I was at lunch and some 7 year old just whipped out his iPhone and started surfing the web. I thought it was the parents but both were on thier own phone. Pretty sad I think.
